month-by-month sleep Averages, Recommendations & wake windows

Navigating parenthood and childcare can be quite overwhelming, particularly when it comes to sleep issues. To assist parents in this journey, I have developed month-by-month, evidence-based recommendations as a reliable reference to improve your child's sleep before considering any sleep coaching or training.

Many parents are pleasantly surprised by the improvements in their child's sleep simply by adhering to these guidelines. However, it is important to recognize that there is considerable variability; these recommendations are based on statistical averages and may not apply to every child. The best approach is to compare your child's sleep logs with the averages provided below to determine what works best for your family.

month by month baby sleep averages

Understanding sleep averages can help parents better understand the needs of your little ones, but it should not be something that causes unnecessary stress if your sleep data does not look exactly the same as the recommendations above.

Expect for sleep journeys to have its natural ups-and-downs and fluctuations. Always ask your pediatrician to make sure that there are no potential underlying medical issues, but sleep often gets disrupted with sleep regressions, teething, as well as developmental leaps and milestones, with new brain connections forming and neurons firing in the middle of the night!

Every baby is unique, and it's perfectly normal to seek support along the way. If you are feeling overwhelmed, please feel free to reach out. With my sleep coaching services, I hope to help families implement your own customized SleepEasy Action Plan to improve sleep in general and/or wean off unsustainable sleep habits. Feel rest assured that with patience and consistency, you will be able establish a healthy sleep schedule for your little one!
